A Fair Deal For Kingston

Blair and Brown are starving Kingston of money and forcing your Council Tax up.

The problem

Labour is fleecing us.  A very large proportion of our Council's money comes from a grant from central government, not from Council Tax.  However, Kingston gets severely below average grant - far less than the wealthy Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. This means that in order to provide exactly the same services, Kingston has to have a higher level of Council Tax than other Boroughs.

Kingston is in fact one of the most efficient Council's in London.  It spends only £687 per head compared to the London average of £852.  However, the Council recieves less than half the Government Grant per head of the London average, £217 compared to £493.

My action so far

Both the Council and I have strongly campaigned against our low grant.  The Council has made representations to the minster and I secured, a Parliamentary debate on the matter on Friday 23rd Feburary 2007 [CLICK HERE TO SEE MY SPEECH].  However, the Government is still refusing to budge.

Join the campaign

If you want to join my campaign against the unfair grant settlement, I urge you to sign the petition below.  The more voices we get behind us, the more force our arguments have when we put them to Ministers.

A FaIR DEAL FOR KINGSTON

I support Edward Davey's campaign for central government to give Kingston Council a fair grant settlement.
